"Dem Hass begegnen lässt sich nur,
indem man seine Einladung, sich ihm anzuverwandeln, ausschlägt. Es gilt zu mobilisieren, was den Hassenden abgeht: genaues Beobachten, nicht nachlassendes Differenzieren und Selbstzweifel."
Carolin Emcke

"The only way to counter hate, by getting his invitation to convert to him, refuse. It is important to mobilize what the haters lack: careful observation, never-ending differentiation and self-doubt."

Foto-Reihe „ The Pigeons“, Manipulated Photos
In many cultures and countries throughout the world, the pigeon in a symbol for peace and freedom. The abstract graphical symbol of a dead pigeon – inspired by the line police draws around a dead body on a crime scene – is origin and base for this project. It is a symbol for the death of peace or the death of freedom.

At 8:15 a.m. on 6 August 1945, the first atomic bomb to be used in war was dropped by the United States Army Air Forces from the Enola Gay, a B-29 bomber. The force of the atomic bomb effectively obliterated the city of Hiroshima, Japan.

Manipulated Photos
In this project I virtually "collect" violent acts. Over time, the similarities came to my attention. Somehow it's all the same, "who" and "why" become rather unimportant questions.
What actually makes people different, is: if they do cross a certain border or not: The moment I commit a violent act, I cross that border. And when I cross it, it does not make a difference, if I am conservative or progressive, left, right or middle. Nore if the justifications for my deeds are sophisticated or mundane.
We should never forget this: when we cross that border - no matter why we do it - we join quite an sinister alliance.
Photo/Graphic „another dead pigeon“, Manipulated Photos
In the photo/exhibition part of the project, the symbol is manipulated inside a photo. The photos have been taken all around the world, but have one thing in common: Something bad has happened at the place the photo has been taken: people killed other people, people suppressed other people, people took away the freedom of other people - peace or freedom died at that place.
We can read about what happened, we can read, when it happened. What we see, though, is just a section of the ground – it could be everywhere.
Egypt
Cairo - Mohamed Mahmoud Street
مِصْر
القَاهِرَة - شارع محمد محمود

Starting 19 November 2011, the clashes took on a new level of violence. In a few days more than 40 people were killed, many injured. It was also suggested, albeit not proved, that security forces had not only used tear gas in an unusual intensity but some kind of more dangerous gas.

“You oughn't abide, sitting calm in your home Saying: Dismal it is, poor they are, and alone You cannot permit it! You dare not, at all.
Accepting that outrage on all else may fall! I cry with the final gasps of my breath:You dare not repose, nor stand and forget “
